Stephen Lally’s work grows out of the blended traditions of functional pottery from England and Japan. His work focuses on form and function, engaging the user and all of his or her senses. The pots are fired for 20 hours to reach a temperature of 2400°F. A quiet palette of glazes are used that complement the ash and flashing marks of the fire, and large portions of pots are unglazed so that the passage of the flame and placement in the kiln is permanently recorded on the skin of the pot. His work is regularly exhibited in national juried shows.
